There are moments on this path when an unexpected interaction shakes something loose inside you.
A subtle trigger.
A tightening in the chest.
A whisper of an old story:
“I’m behind.”
“I’m not doing enough.”
“I don’t belong here.”
It happened to me recently after speaking with another coach. She listed her additional trainings, her memberships and the research she’s participating in. And without warning, an old familiar voice rose up inside me-the one that says you should be doing more. The one that tells so many women that they’re falling short.
For a moment, I felt myself contract.
My mind started scanning for ways to “catch up.”
Maybe I need another certificate.
Another training.
Another way to prove myself worthy.
But then I did something I’ve learned from years of listening to horses:
I paused.
I breathed.
I went inward.
Instead of trying to fix the discomfort…
Instead of armouring against it…
Instead of looking outside myself for the answer…
I let the discomfort lead me inward, not outward.
And in that quiet space, the place beneath stories and striving, something opened. I felt my mare Skye.
Even though she has passed, her presence met me the way it always did:
not with words,
but with a deep, instinctive knowing.
A gentle, grounded truth rose through my body:
“You are enough.
You do things differently.
Your path does not need to look like anyone else’s.”
In that moment, I realized something I want every woman to know: We don’t need to chase ______ to prove our worth.
For some of us, it’s credentials or professional titles.
For others, it’s success, productivity, or being “the capable one.”
Sometimes it’s love- trying to be chosen, validated, or seen.
Sometimes it’s perfection, achievement, or the impossible standard of being everything for everyone.
But the pattern is always the same: we look outward for something we already carry within. The moment we stop chasing and turn inward, we remember that our worth was never something we had to earn- only something we had to come home to.
We need to reconnect with the part of us that already knows who we are.
Horses teach us this every day.
When I walk into the paddock, the herd doesn’t ask me about my certifications.
They don’t measure my productivity or compare my achievements with someone else’s.
They attune to my presence.
My breath.
My energy.
My honesty.
They respond to who I am, not what I’ve collected.
And that’s what makes this moment feel so pivotal.
Because instead of abandoning myself, the way I used to, I returned to myself.
I didn’t collapse.
I didn’t compete.
I didn’t perform.
I listened.
I softened.
I stayed.
That’s when I realized:
the woman I have become, the one Skye, my beloved mare, trusted so deeply, doesn’t need to chase worth.
She embodies it.
A few weeks before Skye passed, I was told that there would come a time when Skye wouldn’t guide me from the outside anymore- because she would be in me.
In my breath.
In my knowing.
In my bones.
And in sorting through this trigger, I felt that truth.
The clarity that came wasn’t just mine.
It was her wisdom braided with my own.
So here’s what I want every woman reading this to hear:
When comparison rises, it’s not a sign you’re failing.
It’s an invitation to come home to yourself.
Let the discomfort guide you inward, not into overworking.
Not into proving.
Not into shrinking.
Pause.
Breathe.
Ask your inner wisdom, the part of you that already knows, what is true.
Because you are not behind.
You are not lacking.
You are not too late.
You are not small.
You are becoming.
And your becoming is right on time.
Just like mine.
Just like Skye always knew.
