How are you feeling right now?
Are you calm and centered or fearful and anxious?
If you are feeling scared and tense, it’s ok. We have all been afraid at different times.
You can take control of the fear.
How, you ask?
By breathing.
When we get scared we hold our breath as a physical tool of denial to try to get rid of the fear.
But it doesn’t work.
The less you breathe, the bigger the fear becomes.
So stop what you are doing and take some big deep breaths. Acknowledge the fear as you breathe in and allow yourself to feel it throughout your body.
Don’t resist.
You will be ok.
Inhale deep for a count of five. Hold your breath for five. Then exhale for five. Repeat.
You will feel start to feel calmer, more relaxed and empowered knowing you are in charge of how you feel.
Sometimes all it takes is connecting with your breath to feel in control again.
