It’s been a tough week for all of us as the virus, and fear spreads. I was staying positive in all the craziness, until yesterday.
Too much time spent online reading news updates, rebooking a work conference, and then canceling my family’s spring break travel plans, sent me into a fear spiral triggering an episode of panic.
Last night I knew I had to take back control of my thinking and my well-being. Here are seven things I will be doing that might also help you through this difficult time.
I’m choosing to take control by taking a short social media break. This coincides with my daughter being home for spring break. I am looking forward to giving her my full presence and I am also feeling the call to tap into my creativity.
In British Columbia, the provincial health officer is giving daily updates on the virus. I will tune in for that, but that’s all.
Spending time in nature instantly calms and refreshes me. Even if you can’t get into the forest, or down to the ocean, spending a few minutes outdoors looking up at the sky and breathing in some fresh air will give do wonders for your mental health.
A short meditation will help calm the worry and give your brain a break from the hysteria. You can listen to this short five-minute guided meditation to realign to calm when you’re feeling anxious or check out the thousands of free meditations on my favourite app, Insight Timer.
Music has a powerful effect on our mood. I am listening to this soul-soothing playlist today.
What we eat affects how we are feeling. For me, making sure I eat whole nutrient-dense foods that nourish my body is vital in feeling calm and strong.
Despite our leaders calling us to socially isolate we need connection and community. If you’re interested in coming together in a group call please let me know by sending me an email. I am having free zoom meetings next week where we can connect, breathe and meditate together.
We will get through this time.
You are not alone. I am here for you!
Huge hugs and keep hand washing! And if you want to connect on a group call let me know.
